The books feature the adventures of a boy detective, and each presents a mystery to be solved by the reader. The comic strip followed the same idea - note the mystery question "What gave Mike away??" and the upside-down answer presented in the last frame of this comic. The Encyclopedia Brown comic strip ran for just two years from 1978 to 1980, distributed by Universal Press Syndicate, and drawn by Frank Bolle who lived in Weston, CT.
