Folio (278 x 187mm), pp. [20], 683, [1], lacking frontispiece (see ESTC record R12718). Bound in contemporary blind-stamped calf with spine gilt in compartments, original spine label missing, boards loose (handle with care). The occasional early ink annotation throughout the margins, along with an early ink ownership signature on the title-page ("Thos. Hale"). Very faint impression of the initials "T.H." on the upper board.

First (only?) edition of Ralph Brownrigg's Fourty Sermons, as published by William Martyn in 1661. This copy was owned by a man by the name of Thomas Hale, who we believe resided at one time in Madison, CT. Brownrigg lived from 1592 to 1659; this collection of his sermons was published posthumously. Click here for more info.
