Watercolor painting of "The General's Residence" (908 Boston Post Rd, Madison), idealized as it might have looked in its 20th-century heyday. Greatly modified over its long and storied life beginning in the late 18th century, the building was demolished on 8/25/2020. See ACC# 2020.099.002 for the historical report on this structure.
Artwork is under glass in a handsome two-toned wooden frame with a centered brass plaque on the frame inscribed, "The General's Residence c. 1729". The artwork is signed by the artist, "William Q Dowling / '21". Mr. William Quinton Dowling is an MHS Trustee and painted this piece as the plan to be used by the architect, Duo Dickenson, who is designing a replica home on the original site. Frame size is 22 3/4" x 18 1/2", white mat with beveled edge is 19 5/8" x 15 3/8", the artwork is 14" x 11"
