Bronze. Born in Berlin, Steffi Friedman immigrated to the United States in 1939, then studied art in New York City. In 1952, she moved to Westport to raise her family, and from her at-home studio she emerged as a renowned sculptor and teacher. This figurative group portrays a classical ballet duet—called pas de deux, or French for ‘step of two' —with a male and a female performing together. It reflects Friedman’s hallmark sensitive and versatile modeling and her focus on motion and emotion.
