cream glaze overall with black orinted images / text "Commodore Pribble" with portrait on obverse; on reverse "Commodore Pribbles squadron attacking the City of Tripoli, August 3, 1804". -- Signed "D" - T Dixon, engraver. -- Commander Edward Preble (1761-1807), a Maine native, was the hero of the battle of Tripoli in 1804 fought against the Barbary pirates. Commanding a seven-ship, thousand man squadron from his flagship the U.S.S. Constitution, he undertook a series of daring raids that overwhelmed an enemy force of 25,000. He set the standard for the fighting traditions of the U. S. Navy and trained the next generation of naval leaders. He was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
