glazed pearlware ceramic with handpainted and transfer-engraved decoration
earthenware
cream glaze with black transfer print decoration rear and color front. Rear coat of arms titled "The Baker's Arms". Front brick building scene painted red, yellow and green with black cloud shading and wreath around scene. Under spout "Ebenezer Gunnison" in wreath over eagle. The hand-painted brick building is believed to be a bakery in Newburyport, Massachusetts. There are one or two other surviving pitchers with depictions of the bakery, which is believed to be the first mechanized bakery in the United States. The Newburyport Bakery made hard tack bisquets for the merchant fleet.
