19th Century Staffordshire Plate. Rear printed text: "The Dam / and / Water Works / Philadelphia". Front imagery depicts stern-wheeler steamboat on river.  There are two varieties of this plate: The Dam and Water Works, Philadelphia (with side wheeler), and The Dam and Water Works, Philadelphia (with stern wheeler). They are exactly the same views except for the steamboats in the foreground. The plate with a side wheeler steamboat a smokestack in the middle of the boat and two masts.
