young woman seated in chair wearing blue-gray Empire-style dress with white lace off-the-shoulder collar; she holds pink-red flower in right hand in lap with hands crossed in lap; her long hair tied rear with white bow. Martha Kendrick (1829-?) was the daughter of Green and Anna Maria Leavenworth Kendrick. Martha never married and lived with her father on the Green (then known as Centre Square) in Waterbury. Her brother John lived next door in what would later become the first home of the Mattatuck Museum.
