Samuel Shethar was in business with Isaac Thompson in Litchfield in 1800. In 1806 he was in business with Richard Gorham in New Haven.
Isaac Bronson, whose name is inscribed on this cup, was a surgeon in the Revolutionary War. He served under George Washington. He advocated directly to Washington to request pensions for war surgeons.
Later in life, Bronson became an investor and banker, helping to found the Bridgeport Bank and New York Life Insurance and Trust Company. By 1828 he was one of the wealthiest men in New York City.
