Part of Richard Chamberlain's Vietnam series entitled "Year of the Sheep." This is one of 30 paintings donated to the Mattatuck Museum in 1988. All of the paintings were a part of the artist's Vietnam series, which was based on his experiences in the country during the Vietnam War. The name of the series is derived from the Vietnamese calendar year for 1967-68, when Chamberlain was stationed there. He has described the paintings as a way to "better understand the conflict between good and evil and my role therein.". Signed in red paint in the lower right corner "R. Chamberlain".
