A Connecticut scene painted two years after the artist moved to New Hartford. Harry Russell Ballinger, b. 1892. Signed "H R Ballinger" lower right. He was bot han artist and an author, publishing works such as "Painting Surf and Sea", and numerous articles. He taught in Connecticut at the Bristol Art League (1945-46) and at Connecticut Cnetral Colege (1949-59). He studied at the University of California, San Francisco, the Art Students' League, and in Paris France. During his early career he worked as a magazine illustrator, and was friends with Norman Rockwell. By the late 1920s Ballinger had left his career in commercial art in order to devote himself full time to fine art. He moved to New Hartford, CT in 1936 and later had a gallery in Rockport, ME.
