Alphabet sampler worked in blue, pale green, tan and brown silks using cross-stitch. Divided into two portions, the top containing three rows alphabets in uppercase and lowercase block and cursive letters. the numbers 1-12 are included in the second row. Horizontal band of zigzag worked in blue and beige silks divides the sampler nearly in half, below this band is the verse "See virtue prove your never fadin bloom / For menial beauties will survive te wrath", and the inscription "Rachel S Randall. 1844". Distinctive church dominates lower left quadrant and in the middle is vase with flowers; right quadrant is a vacant space. A strawberry vine border is stitched along four sides.
