Donnett uses multiple paper bags in a series of works that consider issues of represetnation. Here, the figure of a boy wearing a cardboard box stands on a red book that is placed atop of a telephone pole. Diagonal across from him is imagery that referneces the 1992 Rodney King beating by the Los Angeles Police. The proximity of th boy to this scene of violence would seem to indicate that his circumstances are quite dire. Yet his placement in the upper levels of the picture plane suggests that within this realm there is a primacy placed on things cerebral.
