Later edition of a collection of Isaac Watts' psalms edited by Samuel M. Worcester of Amherst College, first published in 1834. The present copy was custom-bound in contemporary brown goatskin for its then-owner, Col. Jonathan Samuel Wilcox, whose name has been stamped in gilt to the cover, along with "C. Church", presumably the Congregational Church in Madison, Connecticut. It is housed in our collection with another copy which is almost identical save one detail: the upper cover stamp on the other copy reads "Mrs. J.S. Wilcox". Together, the two books paint a picture of what daily worship looked like for a Madison couple in the mid-nineteenth century. 12mo, 776 pp, modern stamp of the Madison Historical Society to title-page.
