[Presbyterian Board of Publication]. Psalms and hymns adapted to social, private, and public worship in the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America. Later edition of a book of psalms published by the Presbyterian Board of Publication. A presentation inscription on this copy's front free endpaper reads, "[To] Mrs. Scranton from her friend Mrs Whitwell February 1859. 'Best be the tie that binds Our hearts in Christian love'." The binding, contemporary calf over beveled edges, is stamped in blind and gold with brass clasps and all edges gilt. It appears to be some kind of deluxe publisher's binding, meant precisely for this purpose: to be given as a gift from one Christian woman to another in nineteenth-century America. 24mo, pp. 255,[1], 480, 82.
