Holcombe, Henry, 1762-1824. Primitive Theology, in a series of lectures. By Henry Holcombe, D.D. Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Philadelphia ... Philadelphia: Printed for the author, by J. H. Cunningham. 1822.

First edition, 12mo, printed for the author, of Holcombe's series of theological lectures dedicated "to the First Baptist Church and Congregation of Philadelphia, after a mutual fellowship often years, by their affectionate pastor, the author" (Dedication page). This copy is bound in contemporary gilt tree calf with marbled endpapers, all edges marbled. It appears complete in 307 pages.

Provenance: Previously owned by Daniel Hand's sister, Chloe Hand Wilcox, who has inscribed the title-page with her signature. An inscription to the front free endpaper reads: "Chloe Hand Wilcox Gift to her by her deceased Brother Jonathan M. Hand who died at Augusta Georgia August 14th. 1826. Presented by Daniel Hand". Presumably, the book was first owned by Jonathan (AKA Jehiel), passed to Chloe, and finally presented by Daniel Hand to the Hand Academy. The original ownership inscription of Jonathan Meigs Hand appears on the front free endpaper: "Jono Meigs Hand Novr 30th 1822 Augusta Geo". The Madison Historical Society's ownership stamp also appears on the title-page.
