Once in the possession of Daniel Hand, this book was published for students to learn the art of oratory. The importance of pronunciation, inflection, emphasis and voice are discussed, and many examples are given, complete with wood-engraved illustrations of accompanying gestures and movements. At this time, oratory would have been an essential part of a young student's curriculum.
