The interview was conducted by Jeremy Brecher and Jan Stackhouse for the Brass Worker's History Project. A partial transcript is available. The original interview was on 2 cassette tapes - tape 1 was too fragile to digitize. John Gatison, a black leader in Ansonia, began working at American Brass in 1940. He was a member of the NAACP Waterbury branch since it was chartered in 1944. He was vice president during this interview. He tells about the gains achieved by black people in the various aspects of civil rights from the 1940s to the late 1960s and his part in achieving those goals peacefully.
