Russell Sobin gave an oral history interview for the Brass Worker's History Project. The interview was conducted by Jeremy Brecher on October 27, 1980. A partial transcript is available. Russell Sobin started working at American Brass Company in Ansonia in 1929, becoming the first Russian roller during the 1940s. He was also one of the first union stewards, signing up workers who spoke Russian, Polish and Lithuanian. Recalls his father serving on picket lines during the 1920 strike. Contrasts automated operations with hazardous conditions of earlier years in the factories.
