Second volume only of the tenth edition of Thomas Newton's Dissertations on the Prophecies. Newton (1704-1782; no relation to Isaac) was an English scholar who served as the Bishop of Bristol from 1761 to 1782. The present book was a massive undertaking of religious scholarship, but he is remembered chiefly today for his annotations on Milton's Paradise Lost.

This copy was owned by the Rev. Erastus Scranton (1877-1861), as we can see from the inscription on the front free endpaper: "E. Scranton's Property. July 10th 1801". He has annotated the text, but only sparingly, such as on page 71 ("Good") or on page 382 ("!!!").
