24mo (110 x 78 mm), approx. 50 pp. with woodcut illustrations. Contemporary ink gift inscription to last free endpaper recto. Bound in original boards, spine later reinforced with 20th-cent. brown cloth tape. MHS bookplate to front pastedown with 20th-cent. ink inscription: "Gift of Mrs. Irene Griswold Cr[?]"

A well-preserved circa 1849 reprint of one of a 1777 primer for young children, including catechism. This copy is special because of an early ink gift inscription on the final leaf of the book: "Mabel Scranton a present to Mary Day of a little Book".
