Gay, Julia (associated with)
1806 (Date manufactured/created)
Sampler embroidered by Julia Gay (1789-1836) in 1806, showing world map. She was the daughter of Captain Daniel Gay and Clarissa Brown. Julia Gay attended the Litchfield Female Academy, where she likely made this sampler. Julia was the grandniece of Ebenezer Gay (her father, Daniel Gay, was Ebenezer's nephew), and the 2nd cousin once removed of Margaret Gay (see 2013.00.32 for Margaret's 1831 sampler). In 1810, Julia married Captain Orrin Pardee (Julia was his second or third wife). The only offspring on record is Albert Pardee (born in Sharon in 1820), who served in the Civil War.
