Musket, Composite American

circa 1775 (Date manufactured/created)
c. 1776 - composite American musket used during the invasion of Quebec in Dec. 1775 and wielded by Samuel or Christopher Cartwright of Sharon, Connecticut. The object demonstrates how family weapons were used and reused in different conflicts in American history, beginning with Ethan Allen’s invasion of Quebec in 1775. It also shows how Connecticut’s rudimentary iron industry in the late 18th century proved to be pivotal in the American Revolution, as Connecticut was the leader in arming and supplying the Continental Army.
