From typed caption in sleeve with this photo: "Marckres 1890. A cluster of businesses occupies the north end of Main Street in this picture . At the right is E.F. Gillette's furniture store, located in a building moved up from  Sharon Valley in 1853. Beyond the small hardware store to the left of Gillette's is a pharmacy operated by D.B. Cole". A sign on the fence to the left of the pharmacy says "Peerless Dyes". This building collapsed when an attempt was made to move it  in 1894-95  (see 2004.24.185-188).   NOTE:  According to what is written on the back of 2004.24.181, this photo was taken in 1860. In photo 2004.24.185, dated 1894-95,  the small hardware store has had columns and a second floor porch added to it..... that could have been done in the 4 years between 1890 and 1894, or perhaps this IS an older photo...
