Hide covered trunk, studded with nails on corners. Lined with burlap and paper. Tag inside says it is 18th century. Bottom is plain wood. A handle is secured on each end with nails in a decorative patter, Leather is cracked anjd separating at seams. Metal corner protectors are also bent and cracked. Tag nailed to outside says " Smith, Sharon, Conn". According to Betty Scribner, it was donated by a Mr. Stewart Jones, former owner of John Cotton Smith's house - Weatherstone, and was from the attic of that house, but no offical evidence of that donation has come to light.
