Print of oil painting of Caroline Brownson Hart (1894-1982). By Louise Lyons Heustis. 1928. "The Miter Box. Sharon, CT" is written on back. Attached bio is transcribed below:

Caroline Brownson Hart
1894-1982
Carolien Brownson was the daughter of Rear Admiral Willard H. Brownson (1834-1932). She was born in 1894, and married Thomas C. Hart, later Admiral and the last Commander-in-Chief of the Asiatic Station, in 1910. After the Admiral's retirement, the Harts moved to Sharon as full-time residents of "The King House", the brick home at the north end of the Sharon Green. Mrs. Hart was a descendant of George King (pictured in the miniatures in the case). Apparently always a family historian, Mrs. Hart wrote a biography of her father (From Frigate to Dreadnaught. Sharon, CT: King House, 1973) and preserved her father's papers that are now housed at Naval Historical Center. Throughout the columinous correspondence and subject files in the collection, Caroline Brownson Hart and Admiral Hart made notes and comments on events and people. These notes are usually initialed C.B.H. or T.C.H.

Mrs. Hart served as president of the Sharon Historical Society from 1961-1965. She personally donated many of the objects in the museum collection, including the two platters on either side of her portrait. (Note, as of August 2013, these platters are no longer with portrait).
