Video Story of Cornelius Scranton Bushnell

Born digital 4 minute video produced by MHS about one of Madison’s most famed native sons, Cornelius Scranton Bushnell.  He was descended from members of the company that founded Guilford within the Connecticut Colony in 1639. He started his career as a merchant marine but went on to become a successful railroad executive. He is remembered for the important role he played in the development of the first ironclad ship produced during the Civil War, the USS Monitor.
Narration is by Will Cassidy and editing is by Abby Simpson.  Images are from MHS' collection, The National Gallery of Art and the New Haven Museum.  Produced by Maryanne Harmuth and the students and teacher at Daniel Hand High School.
