using a variety of materials including textbooks, topographic maps, and work manuals, Josh Dorman crreates mixed media collages that include obvious references and obscure allusion. He identified that "part of the reason i started collage in the first place was that when i looked at old maps i found forms in the topographic lines like we look for in animals in the coulds." In 'Arm' he has painted a tree in the left foreground and a dark nebula at upper right, and uses topopgraphical shapes to create mountains rising out of a blue sea.
