Melissa Calkins was born on August 6, 1797, in Sharon, daughter of James Calkins and Sarah Kelsey.
She married Ira Williams, probably between 1817 and 1820. They lived at 1 Williams Road from 1833 to 1845 (which may have been known at one time as 132 Calkinstown Road) in a house purchased from her father James. They had two children, Henry Williams, born February 1, 1821, and Jennett Williams, born about 1831. Melissa had identical twin sisters, Bulia (b. 1803) (married John Williams) and Julia (married Horace Reed of Amenia).
Melissa died on January 15, 1873, and is buried with her husband, Ira, in Section B, lot number 23, in the Hillside Cemetery.
