Dr. Elizabeth Chittenden Lowry was the great granddaughter of the Madison painter George Munger. She was born on July 16, 2009 in Cananea, Mexico, where her grandfather, George B. Chittenden, was mining copper. She was raised in New York State and studied Medicine at Cornell Medical School. There she met her husband.
The couple moved to Minessotta; Elizabeth worked in a pediatric practice. In 1968, her husband died and in 1971, she moved to the Chittenden home in Madison. Elizabeth worked in Guilford and served as Health Officer fro the Town of Madison from 1971 to 1980. She was active in many community organizations such as the Madison Land Conservation trust.
