The Collegiate Institute for Young Ladies was founded in 1865 as a secondary school for young women. It boasted to provide a "complete" education. In 1875 the school was reformed as Saint Margaret's School for Girls. This is the oldest photograph of the Collegiate Institute. A similar photograph was reproduced in Carol Burke Ohmann's books Saint Margaret's School 1865-1965, and she lists the women as (starting bottom left and going clockwise): Ida Robinson (Bronson), Helen Platt (Camp), Hattie Scovill (Seeley), Susie Northrup (Tucker), Lily Hurlburt (Davis), Julia Porter (Sperry), and Bertha Platt (Hart). The central figure is unknown.
