Jack Brownstein gave an oral history interview for the Jewish History Project on January 15, 2001. Jack's father, Harry Brownstein immigrated to New York City from Russia around 1910. Harry came to Waterbury to work in a relatives dry goods store called Strogats. Because Harry sold fabric to women who made aprons, he began making aprons themselves. Eventually, Harry founded the Waterbury Apron Company - later the Waterbury Garment Company. The company made a variety of garments.
Jack Brownstein also allowed the Mattatuck Museum to take digital copies of some of his family and work photographs which are included here. Most of the photographs depict Waterbury Garment employees at some sort of event or party.
