Jonathan Trumbull served as governor of Connecticut both while it was a colony and while it was a state. The book is a complete biography of Trumbull's life. There is a prefatory note by E.M.T. Trumbull, the governor's great-great-great grandson, that states that the author Trumbull finished the text but was unable to oversee final publication and revision due to ill health and eventual death.
