While it's unclear what model this camera is, based on the back plate holder which can spin to accommodate a landscape or a portrait photograph it's likely to be Flammang's Patent Revolving Back Camera Front Focus Variation 1 which was manufactured by American Optical Company from 1884-1896. This large format camera might have been for landscape photography, but it's more likely that it was used as a studio camera. American Optical manufactured cameras for Scovill Manufacturing, and was later purchased by Scovill.
