This black box camera has 2 hand-made plate inserts, a cloth pouch, and a light-blocking pouch. This camera was possibly a hand-made camera obscura. It's more likely that this is a hand-made camera for taking daguerreotype photographs because of the plate inserts in the rear of the camera. Because there is no lens, this would operate as a pinhole camera.
