Metal, oval-shaped hat badge for the G.A.R. Admiral Foote Post No. 17 (New Haven) secured on the back by four metal posts (one is missing). Center of badge reads "17" in raised writing over a hammered textured background. Around this is a black border with stars at the left and right and raising gold writing in between: Admiral Foote / New Haven".
