"Days of Yore: Was Madison’s Cornelius pranked by ‘Lincoln telegram’?" article by Bob Gundersen for the Shoreline Times, May 30, 2017. The article discusses the expert analysis carried out in 2017 on the 'Lincoln telegram' sent to Cornelius S. Bushnell, which is in our collection (ACC # 92.17). The analysis found that it's likely this 'telegram' was a prank played on Cornelius by friends or colleagues; it is not Lincoln's handwriting and the envelope and telegram mastheads don't match.  And Lincoln never joked about the conduct of the war, especially in easily intercepted telegrams.
