1876 (Date manufactured/created)
Paper, Cloth
[Seaweed Scrapbook]. 1870s.

Folio (305 x 235mm), approx. 100 leaves, all with specimens. In original quarter roan and green cloth, spine gilt in compartments.

The Victorians loved their mementos, and seaweed scrapbooks were a common addition to young ladies' bookshelves. A young woman would collect specimens of seaweed near their home or while on holiday (in the case, along the beaches of Madison, CT) and press them into scrapbooks to form natural keepsakes. Sadly, we do not know who owned this particular seaweed album.
