Costume, Morning Wear - White Net Bed Jacket

1910s (Date manufactured/created)
Fabric (Net), Fabric (Satin) Ribbon
This garment is very fragile. Please handle accordingly.
This bed jacket is made from white cotton net, accented with fine lace, and lined with a layer of entirely sheer silk gauze. This combination of translucent materials creates a beautiful, ethereal garment worn in the morning before getting dressed for the day.
The jacket is made primarily of net with a wide band of horizontal insertion lace going all the way around the chest. The jacket hangs open at center front, where it is closed with four hooks and thread bars and cord; the jacket has a wide square collar of net edged at the sides with a length of yellow corded trim. This hangs down the back and front, the latter lengths used as ties.
The jacket has overlays of white net, embroidered with florals of gold and white thread. These overlays drape from the shoulders over the back and front. They are not sewn to the hem, but are secured by a band of lace sewn to the edges, that anchor the embroidered net from hem to hem. There is a waistband of net. The jacket has long narrow sleeves with two bands of lace insertion.
Condition: Fair. Lining very unstable. L: 19".
