Fabric (Cotton), Fabric (Silk)
A waistcoat in cream silk brocade, with back panels made from copper-colored cotton twill, and wholly lined with white cotton. The front panels are heavily padded. It closes center front with 7 round self-covered buttons. The neckline is moderately high and the shawl lapels are lined with twill. There are three pockets. A top stitched, welted watch pocket is positioned at the right breast. Two additional welted pockets are positioned below.
Inside the front is the maker's stamp: "A. Hover, Maker, Astor House, 5 Vesey St. NY." This informs us that the waistcoat was sold and perhaps made in a basement shop below the first floor of the fashionable hotel Astor House.
Condition: good; slight discoloration. OL 21 1/2" ( center back )
