Boston Museum Newspaper issued on Saturday, October 27, 1849.  This arts, literature, and entertainment newspaper, published weekly by Putnam and Mellen, features songs, stories, and articles.  This issue includes an article on a man whose connections to P. T. Barnum became important: vocalist Ossian E. Dodge. Dodge was the first man to get tickets to Jenny Lind's concert in Boston in September 1850 at the beginning of her concert tour, and he wrote and performed a song for her entitled Ossian's Serenade.  The newspaper predates Lind's arrival in America by 11 months.  The newspaper also includes mention of Father Mathew on page 130, in a short piece entitled “Our Gifts to Father Mathew.”  Father Theobald Mathew was an Irish priest and staunch advocate of temperance, preaching for the cause both in Ireland and in the United States.  In 1850, Mathew and P.T. Barnum’s paths crossed, as Mathew awarded Barnum with a gold medal in gratitude for Barnum’s championship of temperance.  Also present in this newspaper are the articles on current interests and news of the time, including articles about Napoleon's tomb, Sir John Franklin's ill-fated Polar expedition, news of the California Gold Rush, and famous writers of the period such as Longfellow and Dumas.
