Letter to Samuel Hurd from Henry Bergh on ASPCA letterhead dated  April 28, 1874.  Letter is in regard to treatment of cattle at the Hippodrome.

Samuel Hurd was a son-in-law of Barnum as well as his employee.  Bergh was a vocal critic of Barnum's treatment of animals, but the two men eventually became friends.  Barnum was a pallbearer at Bergh's funeral, and bequeathed money to the ASPCA in his will.  He also paid for a memorial statue in honor of Bergh, erected in Seaside Park, Bridgeport, Conn.
