Letter to P.T. Barnum from W.H. Flowers, director of the British Museum of Natural History, thanking Barnum for a donation, dated April 12, 1886.  Written on museum letterhead.  The donation in question is a piece of Jumbo the elephant's tusk, who was much beloved in England and whose sale to Barnum set off a public outcry.  The address for the museum is Cromweel Road, London, S.W.  T

P.T. Barnum wrote a large number of letters in his time, and as a public figure, recieved many in return.  These manuscripts offer insight into his personal life via correspondence with friends and family, his business interests including the American Museum and the circus, and his personality.  The various correspondents demonstrate how vast his social circle was, and the space he occupied as a public figure during his own lifetime.
