silk & leather
This early 17th century pair of silk floral brocade shoes are made with a main textile of white, green, and red floral silk brocade.
They are bound with green cotton tape around the wide square tongue, thin latchets, and topline. The same tape forms the dogleg (stepped) side seam and runs down the center back of the shoes. The shoes are made with a white rand around the vamp's sole edge. The heel is large and blocky, and covered by green silk, save for the heel breast, where the brown sole leather extends. The toe is sharply pointed and slightly lifted. The soles are not different for the right or left foot. The shoes are lined at the heel, quarter, and latchets with white leather. The vamp is lined with rough ecru cotton.
Condition: Poor to fair. Silk is torn and dirtied. OL: 9.5", OH: 4 1/2" OW: 3".
