This compiled collection consists of letters written by Daniel Hand Wilcox (1826 - 1890) from New Haven, Augusta, and Savannah to various members of his family, predominantly his father, Col. Jonathan Samuel Wilcox, of Madison, Connecticut, along with a typescript index and a letter from Robert W. Carder dated October 13, 1980, concerning the photocopying of these letters for archival purposes. The content of the letters spans over a decade (1867-1871) and includes discussions on family matters, business deals, and observations about the post-Civil War Southern United States. The last communication serves as an offer to deposit the copies with the Madison Historical Society.
