Video "North Madison" part of 'Madison (1980's) Now and Then'
This program is quite different from its companion programs in that it contains earlier historical material. While the southern portion of Madison has had its history of the past eighty years well documented in picture postcards and photographs, there is little such material available for North Madison. To be sure, there are some photos but not many have come to light at this time. In this program, history is presented as gleaned from the many documents gathered by Merritt Cleaver in the course of his "love affair with North Madison". Land records, newspaper articles, account books, tax lists, and other documents have allowed him to construct a clear and colorful view of "North Bristol" as North Madison was once called. Summer Hill and Race Hill take on a new meaning . We visit Ninevah Falls, Cedar Swamp, saw mills and the iron works. This slide journey through present day North Madison becomes a doorway to the past.
