Dress, Garment - Gold Brocade Wedding Dress | Worn by Helen B. O'Donnell

November 6 1934 (Date manufactured/created)
1930s (Date manufactured/created)
Gold Lame'
The gown worn by Helen O'Donnel at her marriage. It is of gold brocade with a floral pattern, and unlined.
A.) The short bodice has long sleeves, closing with 7 buttons and ending with a point at the wrist. The bodice has a very low V neckline and cutout back, the spaces filled in with white net. The photo of the bride suggests this was worn under the main dress. It has no closures, and slips over the head with an elastic waist.
B.) The dress is very long, and closes atypically in a wraparound style. It is cut to hug the body in one piece. Wide ties extend from the neckline, likely having been left free or secured around the waist. It has a low back, and closes at the side with hooks and eyes.
C.) The photos suggest this piece was worn around the waist asymmetrically. A short skirt is attached to a very wide, girdle-like waistband. It would have kept the gown in place when worn.
Labeled photos of Helen, her husband, maid of honor and best man, as well as family included in the storage box.
