Wheeler, Miss Emily (previously owned by)
One of five bills pasted in a notebook, along with Confederate money and Chinese money. Note typed on the front of the notebook says "Gift: Miss Laura Wheeler". Note on first page of Colonial money says "Colonial Bills, Presented by Miss Wheeler". However, the 1911 inventory says that the bills were a gift from her sister, Miss Emily Wheeler. For that reason, the bills have been accessioned with a saparate donor number assigned to "Miss Wheeler". The front of this $20 bill says "Twenty Dollars, Philadelphia, printed by Hall and Sellers" and is very faded, with an imprint of a leaf on it. Back has one circle enclosing a drawing, and the individual number "155484" handwritten on it in brown ink, and is signed. The date is Sept. 26, 1778. The date on which this bill is pasted has come unglued from the notebook.
