Contract to build house for Silas Gray from Enoch Peck and George Peck. Undated 18??.
Contract reads as follows:
"We, the subscribers agreed to do the woodwork to a house for Silas A. Gray in a modern stile in the following dimensions the body of the house to be 17 feet by 22 with a leanto 9 feet wide the length of the house the leanto to be divided into three parts 2 bedrooms and a buttery 6 feet wide with a suitable number of shelves, etc, and one window in each of twelve lights. In the house there shall be two outside doors hung. The one in front to be panneled. The inside doors also to be panneled and one panel door each side of the stairway below cased within. Two windows in front 15 lights each one in the ink room, two in the chamber - the posts of the house to be 12 feet high - the work in the chamber to be included also. In the front is to be a cornace - the west end is not be be sided except the west end of the leanto. The price for doing said job is to be eighty five dollars, and the timber is to be sawed by Gray and all materials for doing the same to be good and in readiness when wanted. Furthermore the said Gray is to board the subscribers while doing said job. The rafters studs posts and beams to be sawed. The whole to be painted for a compensation or common wages - only the paint for inside work to be prepared gratis.
