Gutmann, while known primarily as a Post Impressionist painter, produced several etchings and exhibited them often. The sitter is his wife, Bertha Goldman Gutmann. The composition and sitter is very similar to the artist's painting, "The Lady in Pint," illustrated in the recently published book on Gutmann written by Percy North. Bertha Goldman was the grand daughter of the founder of Goldman Sachs.
